Re: Timber frame buildings
All wood will deteriorate at some point I just suppose it depends on how long you intend to stay and whether you care you have a risk your property could go down in value because of it.

If there is any type of water / fire exposure your timber frame / cladding is at a much higher risk.

Re: Timber frame buildings
You do know that they use I beams made of wood, if it were suspect to deterioration, they wouldn't allow it

Re: Timber frame buildings
FC it does not matter if it is completely exposed or not timber can still have all sorts of problems even internally

Far Cough 3:04 Wed Sep 10
Re: Timber frame buildings
Oh and if there is any exposed timber it will be pressure treated

ludo21 3:03 Wed Sep 10
Re: Timber frame buildings
The wood is sealed... it has an external cladding (eg brick) and internally is behind the internal fixing. It is also treated.

The wooden frame does not get wet / damp in any way, so no it does not have any maintenance issues.

Re: Timber frame buildings
its almost 20%. On a £500,000 build it would be around £ 100,000 saving.

Re: Timber frame buildings
Most timber frame houses don't have any exposed structural timber, it will be covered in insulation and cladding

Re: Timber frame buildings
It's 40 grand that isn't on my mortgage just to sit in blocks in my house I suppose Volley.

Yet to be 100% convinced though. It's a tricky one

Re: Timber frame buildings
So wood will not deteriorate faster then block / brick / stone?

ludo21 2:59 Wed Sep 10
Re: Timber frame buildings
You have shown by your comments at 2.51 that you know NOTHING.... there are no maintainance issues on a Timber frame over brick FACT.
